It’s Thanksgiving week, y’all! We decided to take advantage of the beautiful and unusually warm November weather and visited Savannah’s beach on Tybee Island to enjoy lunch from Tybee Island Social Club. The restaurant is located on the south side of the island and is decorated with a shabby chic motif of hunting lodge meets beach bum. Known for their gourmet tacos, the restaurant also has a great variety of appetizers and other meal options and caters to the artistic foodie.
We each chose one of their most popular tacos and took it for a picnic at north beach. There we set our food up on a swing with the Tybee Lighthouse in the background.
The Dishes: Duck Taco, Short Rib Taco, Sweet Potato Fries, and Guacamole with Pita Chips
What’s Special About It? -Eleanor: “The ingredients all seemed very fresh, and it was hard to decide which taco to get – there were so many unique choices! The pita chips added a nice homemade touch to the guacamole.”
-Kenda: “It seemed appropriate that we chose gourmet tacos for an afternoon at the beach, and there were so many great items from which to choose. It felt as though the chef put a lot of effort into making the food both flavorful and plentiful.”
What Does It Taste Like? -Kenda: “The Short Rib Taco had a sweet sauce to add depth to the delicious rib meat. It was held together by a buttery warm pita. The sweet potato fries also had a sweetness to them and were accompanied well by the chipotle aioli, which gave it a smoky/spicy flavor.”
-Eleanor: “I always love duck, and this was particularly tender and flavorful. The shredded meat was topped with radishes, tomatillo sauce and apples, which gave it a lot of complexity. It would have also been great in a salad, which you have the option of doing with any of the tacos.”
What Did We Say About It?
-Kenda: “The ingredients of everything we ate were fresh and well-prepared, with thought given to presentation. It’s the perfect food for a beach-day picnic!”
