J. Christopher’s

J Christopher’s is located on Liberty Street in downtown Savannah

Psst! Pass it on! There’s a little-known fact you might not be aware of: J. Christopher’s serves lunch. Famous for their delicious breakfasts (which, on a Saturday or Sunday morning can create lines that file down the street), the regional chain also has an equally first-rate lunch menu.

the interior of J Christopher’s is filled with artwork on the walls and a fun, diner atmosphere

The lunch menu at J. Christopher’s is divided into Soups, Salads, Sandwiches, Fresh Grill Quesadillas, Burgers, and Signature Lunch Skillets. To many of the dishes there is a southern twist, such as the house-made southern potato salad that can come with any of the sandwiches and burgers or the pimiento cheese served on several of their dishes. Their breakfast menu is also served all day, so, if the mood strikes, you can still enjoy their famous Blueberry Crunchcakes and Eggs Christopher for lunch.

We thought about taking our food to a park, but the dining area outside the restaurant was so nice we stayed. Situated a little to the side of the more bustling area of Liberty Street and with its seating right on the sidewalk, it’s both a great people-watching location and a peaceful lunch setting.

J Christopher’s outdoor dining

the Bistro Salad has a mix of fresh baby salad greens topped with strawberries, dried cranberries, sweet & spicy pecans and goat cheese – Eleanor added grilled chicken to hers

the Bistro Salad is generally tossed in a low-fat raspberry vinaigrette dressing, but Eleanor opted for a balsamic vinaigrette instead, which complemented the flavors well without overwhelming them

the Turkey Dijon sandwich has sliced roasted turkey, crispy bacon and melted swiss served with lettuce and tomato, and it is drizzled with honey dijon on grilled wheat and served with a side of roasted potatoes.

What’s Special About It?

Kenda: “J Christopher’s is centrally located downtown, and it’s a great locale for either breakfast, brunch or lunch.”

Eleanor: “For all its community atmosphere and good food, my patience still balks at the line for breakfast in the morning here. A late lunch, served on the sidewalk under the trees, was the perfect solution.”

What Did It Taste Like?

Eleanor: “My appetite is largely dictated by the weather. Whenever it rains I find myself craving creamy soups, when the temperature drops I instinctively seek out root vegetables, and in the heat of the summer all I want is a fish taco and a mint mojito. In the spring, though, I dream of fresh lettuce, and light cheeses and lots and lots of strawberries! It’s still a little early for strawberries here, but this salad, with its wedges of chèvre, baby mixed greens, and generous slices of strawberries was an enticing preview of what’s to come.”

Kenda: “My husband, Nate, and I like J Christopher’s for their awesome breakfast menu. After observing their full menu, I just had to try their lunch options. The Turkey Dijon Sandwich has layers of turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, swiss and honey dijon. It all goes perfectly along with roasted potatoes.”

What Did We Say About It?

Kenda: “I was already hooked on J Christopher’s breakfast offerings, but after trying their lunch menu, too, they got me hook, line and sinker!”
